Oh hear hear! I feel such joy in my whole body when I read something new, different, and yes, even the dreaded 'quirky'. These types of stories beat the shit out of the boring Trevoresque dirges we are told to believe are 'great'. I love Etgar K - his stuff is hilarious and moving and memorable. You never feel you have heard it all before.
